Brooklyn Beckham released a scathing statement about the relationship he has with his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, on his Instagram Stories on January 19. Brooklyn stated that his parents have been “trying endlessly to ruin” his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz, whom he married in April 2022, per People. Brooklyn has been estranged from his parents and said that he has no desire to reconcile with them after what he’s been through. “I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life,” Brooklyn wrote. His decision to walk away from a situation that he feels is unhealthy has some people drawing comparisons to Prince Harry, who spoke out about issues within his own family.![]()
In January 2020, Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, announced their decision to step down as senior working members of the royal family. By February 2021, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wouldn’t be returning to their posts, instead choosing to move to Montecito, California, to start a new life. In a televised interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harry and Meghan spoke out about some of the issues they faced while living behind the palace walls. While the couple didn’t name names, they noted some instances that made it clear that they simply could not be around some members of the royal family — most notably, the couple said that someone within the royal family had concerns over the skin color of their first child, per CNN. Now, some fans are finding some serious similarities between Brooklyn and Harry — and that’s not necessarily a good thing.

Prince Harry and Brooklyn Beckham have stood by their wives

There are some glaring similarities when it comes to Brooklyn Beckham and Prince Harry’s respective family dramas, with both men standing up for their wives and doing what they feel is best for them, even if it means leaving their old lives behind — and the internet has noticed. In fact, shortly after Brooklyn released his lengthy statement online, some fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to react, and many couldn’t help but point out the likeness between the two situations. What’s interesting, though, is that many of the comments seem to fault Harry and Brooklyn for going against their families rather than support the two for standing up for their wives.Related video: David Beckham breaks silence after Brooklyn statement on family feud (The Independent)

David Beckham breaks silence after Brooklyn statement on family feud

“Same story like prince Harry, everything was ‘fine’ until they met a woman and the family started ‘disrespecting’ that woman,” one X user wrote. “I will NEVER respect privileged rich kids like Brooklyn Beckham and Prince Harry. These public temper tantrums are a nuisance. When they don’t get their own way, they complain about their families in public and STILL will cash in on the families name and titles,” someone else on X said, calling Brooklyn and Harry “whiny little men.” Another X comment reads, “Rich fam that controls you. And a wife that you love so much that u disown your own family.”

Brooklyn Beckham Is Not ‘the New Prince Harry’

There have been rumors for years about a feud between David and Victoria Beckham and their eldest son, Brooklyn Beckham. But the reason for their rift relied mostly on speculation as to why they were at odds. That is until Brooklyn took to social media and shared a lengthy statement about his famous parents.
The chatter about the family’s falling out goes back to 2022 when Brooklyn married Nicole Peltz. Now, many are labeling Brooklyn as “the new Prince Harry.” But some have argued that’s not the case as their circumstances are much different.
What Brooklyn said about his feud with David and Victoria
David and Victoria have stayed mum about the feud with their son. As for Brooklyn, he categorized the reports as “rubbish” when he was asked about it previously.
During his appearance at the celebrity Ryder Cup in September 2025, he told the Daily Mail, “There’s always going to be people saying negative things, but I have a very supportive wife. Me and her, we just do our thing, we just keep our heads down and work. And we’re happy. Everyone is always going to say rubbish.”
Then, on Jan. 19, 2026, Brooklyn surprised everyone with a statement addressing the fallout with his parents, writing on his Instagram Stories, “I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.
“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events, and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into. Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out.”
Why Brooklyn is not like Prince Harry
Brooklyn’s comments drew immediate comparisons to Prince Harry’s public feud with his family and the reason for the Sussexes’ split from royal life. But it’s not the same thing.
Prince Harry was born into a centuries-old institution with constitutional roles and taxpayer funding. From day one, his life was governed by duty and protocol that came with responsibility, inheritance, and the tension between personal freedom and public service.https://www.instagram.com/p/DTiki4sj-Bt/embed/captioned/?cr=1&v=14&wp=540&rd=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cheatsheet.com&rp=%2Fnews%2Fbrooklyn-beckham-not-new-prince-harry.html%2F#%7B%22ci%22%3A0%2C%22os%22%3A3111.0999999940395%2C%22ls%22%3A1133.4000000059605%2C%22le%22%3A3105%7D
Brooklyn, on the other hand, is famous because of celebrity culture, not an actual monarchy or tradition. He’s the child of two global icons, but his status is social, not institutional. He’s free to take on new projects and a career without representing a country or a crown. If he pivots careers or rebrands, it’s seen as experimentation, not scandal or constitutional crisis.
Moreover, Harry’s break with the royals was planned and deliberate. The duke moved thousands of miles away and then delivered dirt on his family for money with high-profile interviews, a lucrative book deal, and a multi-million contract with the streaming platform Netflix on which the tell-all docuseries Harry & Meghan was released.
Brooklyn, however, has not sold his family’s secrets to the highest bidder in an effort to destroy the Beckham brand. And as Express put it, “Silence, in [Brooklyn’s] case, was not monetised, and breaking it has not been either. He has not turned conflict into currency. That alone should end the comparison. This is not a royal rebellion. It is a family fracture.”
