MILWAUKEE – A man has been charged with several felonies after prosecutors say he led Milwaukee police on a high-speed chase through the city with a child in the backseat.
According to the criminal complaint, on Wednesday, April 10, at around 8:41 p.m., two Milwaukee police officers saw a silver Audi traveling south on N. 15th Street near Clarke. There was no front license plate on the car.
Officers conducted a traffic stop and the driver, later identified as 27-year-old Anthony Griffis, did initially pull over. However, officers noted the vehicle was still in drive with Griffis pressing the brake. Per the complaint, when officers yelled at Griffis to put the car in park, he fled.

Officers pursued with lights and siren still activated as Griffis fled for a total of 1.89 miles, disregarding numerous red lights and driving into oncoming traffic while reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.
The complaint states there were numerous other cars on the road that narrowly avoided being struck by Griffis as he weaved around vehicles.
When Griffis turned southbound on Humboldt Boulevard from Center Street, he drove up on to the front lawn of an apartment building, got out of the vehicle and ran from police. Griffis did not put the vehicle in park before fleeing on foot, so the Audi proceeded to roll into the street.

One of the officers ran to put the vehicle in park and upon doing so, noted there was a baby in a car seat in the back of the vehicle. No one else was seen fleeing from the vehicle besides Griffis. The baby was not injured.
The other officer pursued Griffis on foot and took him into custody after he stopped running and put his hands up.
The complaint noted that Griffis was already convicted of robbery and stealing a vehicle, and sentenced to prison on Oct. 14, 2015. He was released to extended supervision on Aug. 30, 2022.
27-year-old Anthony Griffis has been charged with two counts of 1st-degree recklessly endangering safety, one count of fleeing/eluding an officer, one count of resisting/obstructing an officer and one count of child neglect, all with a habitual criminality repeater.
Griffis made his initial appearance in Milwaukee County court on Tuesday, April 16. Cash bond was set at $10,000.

BRYAN, Ohio — A high-speed pursuit involving a man with a warrant resulted in a 9-month-old baby in a car seat being ejected from a speeding minivan, WSVN reported.
The incident began on Dec. 1 in the parking lot of a Walmart in Bryan, where officers approached a man who had an active warrant. Body camera footage shows the man’s girlfriend loading groceries into the minivan as officers initiated contact.
Seconds later, the man sped away, leaving his girlfriend behind. Inside the van were his infant son and 5-year-old daughter, according to the report.
Dashcam footage captured officers pursuing the man as he reached speeds of up to 100 mph. During the pursuit, officers noted the minivan’s door was ajar. As the vehicle rounded a curve, the 9-month-old in a car seat fell out, bouncing on the roadway.
Authorities said the door was likely not properly closed when the man fled, according to the report.
The pursuit ended when officers decided to halt the pursuit due to bad weather. While attempting to evade police, the man contacted the infant’s mother and revealed his location.
The man later dropped off his daughter at a friend’s house, but it took officers an hour to locate the baby, according to the report. The infant was found on the side of the highway in his car seat, awake and crying. Bodycam video shows the emotional moment the child’s mother found him and cradled him in her arms.
Doctors said the baby’s body temperature had dropped to dangerous levels and could have become life-threatening if he had been left outside much longer, according to the report.
The man was eventually arrested at a nearby apartment complex. He admitted to police that he panicked and made a “poor decision.” He now faces charges of child endangerment, according to the report.
Police: Man flees from officers, leaves 3-year-old and gun in car

Police are still searching for the man who they say fled after an attempted traffic stop, leaving behind in the car a 3-year-old and a gun.
WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Police are still searching for the man who they say fled after an attempted traffic stop, leaving behind in the car a 3-year-old child and a loaded gun.
Around 7:15 Wednesday night, police pulled over a black Chevy Impala at 62nd and Locust in West Philadelphia because the license plate was partially blocked.
That’s when the driver of the car took off and led officers on a chase that ended in Upper Darby.
Along West Chester Pike, the driver abandoned the car and got out on foot.
Officers say the suspect ran behind a firehouse, scaled a 6 foot fence and was last seen heading toward a golf course.
Inside the car, police found a 3-year-old boy in the backseat alongside a yellow book bag. There was also a handgun with a loaded clip of 11 rounds – one in the chamber.
Fortunately the child was not harmed.
“You got a gun that’s ready for war. Eleven rounds in it – ready to go – by some bum that runs and flees from police trying to stop him,” said Supt. Michael Chitwood, Upper Darby Police.
Authorities later learned that the weapon was stolen.
On Thursday morning, the Chevy was parked outside the Upper Darby Police station – pending a tow back to Philadelphia where this investigation is centered now.
Police say the owner of the car is the child’s mother and the suspect’s girlfriend.
The suspect had allegedly been on his way to pick up his girlfriend from work.
Investigators took the woman in for questioning but say she has not been helpful in identifying the man who was behind the wheel.
“The person who did this – he knows who he is. The family knows who he is, girlfriend knows who he is. He needs to be responsible and do the right thing and take accountability for his actions,” said Lt. Johnnie Walker, Philadelphia Police.
Police say they found evidence in the car that, along with DNA evidence, they believe will help determine the identity of the suspect.
The suspect remains at large and police continue to search for him.
