At the recent IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, Germany, Qualcomm Technologies unveiled the next evolution of its ADAS/AD platform: **Snapdragon Ride Pilot**. Designed to make driving safer and more convenient for people worldwide, this automated driving system features a newly developed AD software stack running on the **Ride** platform. Jointly developed with BMW, **Snapdragon Ride Pilot** made its debut in the all-new BMW iX3 after undergoing rigorous validation in 60 countries. Plans are already underway to expand its availability to over 100 countries by 2026. Key features include hands-free, eyes-on, map-following automated highway driving capabilities at speeds up to 85 mph. The system adeptly manages speed, maintains lane discipline, and executes lane changes on approved highway networks. **Snapdragon Ride Pilot** also excels in handling complex, low-speed urban driving scenarios, such as navigating intersections, yielding the right of way, and managing stop-and-go traffic. By seamlessly incorporating essential safety features—like front-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and blind spot warning with steering intervention—**Snapdragon Ride Pilot** helps automakers meet stringent New Car Assessment Programs (NCAP) requirements and earn valuable 5-star safety ratings. ## Snapdragon Ride Pilot—A Comprehensive Software Stack Automakers can adopt and leverage **Snapdragon Ride Pilot** whether they are producing basic single-camera ADAS solutions or sophisticated multi-sensor systems, and everything in between. Regardless of a vehicle’s cost or complexity, driver-assistance features typically rely on a perception layer—comprising sensors and software that act as the system’s “eyes” and “brain”—and a vehicle control layer that serves as the “hands and feet” to execute driving maneuvers based on perception input. “**Snapdragon Ride Pilot** provides a complete software stack that’s vertically integrated and optimized for these two layers to work together for the best experience, offering the ability to scale up and down with the complete solution,” explains Anshuman Saxena, Vice President and Head of ADAS/Autonomous Driving Products at Qualcomm Technologies. “This holistic approach reduces design and engineering workloads—thereby cutting costs and time to market for automakers—and streamlines the ability to update **Snapdragon Ride Pilot** in the future,” Anshuman adds. The platform also integrates seamlessly with other elements of Qualcomm Technologies’ **Snapdragon Digital Chassis** family, enabling automakers to create intelligent and highly personalized experiences using information from both the vehicle’s digital cockpit and driver assist system. Having a unified compute platform with a common software architecture allows them to scale high-performance, safe, and engaging customer experiences across their entire vehicle portfolio. ## Under the Hood of Snapdragon Ride Pilot Automated driving technology demands continuous improvement due to the almost infinite number of unique scenarios encountered on the road. Qualcomm Technologies’ fifth-generation AI perception system is a core component of **Snapdragon Ride**, providing 360-degree awareness through camera and radar-based sensing. It performs critical tasks such as recognizing lane markings, understanding traffic signals, monitoring drivers, and generating real-time maps. The perception stack is built upon the solid foundation of Qualcomm Technologies’ successful Arriver ADAS and self-driving software deployments, which have been trained using over a million miles of data collected across more than 100 countries. To further refine the data collected by cameras and radar sensors, Qualcomm Technologies’ AI utilizes a unique bird-eye-view (BEV) architecture and innovative methods for extracting information from fisheye cameras. To process the massive amounts of incoming sensor data as the vehicle navigates complex and constantly changing environments, such as dense urban traffic, the **Ride** platform applies a sophisticated combination of rule-based and AI-based behavior prediction and planning. Safety-critical information remains on-device for real-time decision-making, while additional data is shared with the cloud to support training and simulations for continuous learning.
## An AI-Based Flywheel for Continuous Improvement Collecting real-time information from fleets of vehicle sensors creates the potential for a data-driven, AI-based flywheel. Augmented by AI-generated drive data to further enhance model accuracy, this flywheel helps the software learn and adapt to unfamiliar road scenarios, becoming more intelligent with every mile driven. For instance, Qualcomm Technologies’ proprietary data simulation factory combines real-world data from vehicles equipped with **Snapdragon Ride Pilot** with synthetic data generation and AI-based simulations. This approach further refines machine learning models, enabling the driver assistance system’s sensors to better detect objects and expand their operational domain over time. This data simulation factory also incorporates bit-accurate reprocessing to support development and innovation, allowing new features to be created in the cloud and deployed to vehicles. Aided by ample processing headroom, vehicles equipped with **Snapdragon Ride Pilot** are dynamically updated throughout their lifecycle. This empowers automakers to continually improve their products and processes, while enabling drivers to upgrade or subscribe to new features and services on-demand. Safety is, of course, built into **Snapdragon Ride Pilot** from the ground up, adhering to Automotive Safety Integrity Levels (ASIL) and Functional Safety (FuSa) standards. It also supports compliance with safety regulations such as NCAP, FMVSS127, and DCAS. Furthermore, **Snapdragon Ride Pilot** addresses Safety of the Intended Functionality (SOTIF) and incorporates robust cybersecurity measures, including multi-layered encryption and threat detection, to safeguard against potential threats. ## Advanced Automated Driving for Everyone With the introduction of **Snapdragon Ride Pilot**, Qualcomm Technologies is actively collaborating with carmakers, Tier-1 suppliers, and other automotive ecosystem partners to bring the next generation of scalable and cost-effective ADAS and AD solutions to more vehicles and road users worldwide. “We keep collecting data and improving the underlying stack, but most importantly, we are improving it at global scale,” stated Nakul Duggal, Group General Manager of Automotive and Industrial & Embedded IoT at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., during his presentation at IAA 2025. “We will have our SOC deployed in partnership with BMW… but most importantly, this is a stack that will be available to every OEM and every Tier 1.” While higher levels of automated driving, such as Level 2+, which offer extended hands-off, eyes-on capability, have traditionally been available primarily on higher-end vehicles, **Snapdragon Ride Pilot** presents an opportunity to make safety and convenience much more pervasive. “Given their potential to reduce crashes and improve personal mobility, Qualcomm Technologies believes automated driving features should always be available to assist drivers, becoming as prevalent as seat belts,” Anshuman Saxena emphasized in a recent blog post about **Snapdragon Ride Pilot**. “We are constantly working to expand the reach of these technologies, developing solutions that can easily be deployed across regions and vehicle tiers.” The future of driving is arriving faster than many realize, and at the forefront of this revolution is Qualcomm Technologies’ **Snapdragon Ride Pilot**.
