A HYSTERICAL passenger had to be restrained by cabin crew after “hammering on the cockpit door” after drinking alcohol.

The passenger began “screaming and banging on the cockpit door” on a Jet2 flight from Istanbul to Manchester on Wednesday evening, witnesses said.

Crew on the Boeing 747 activated an emergency situation on, and had to restrain the man – who had been drinking alcohol before the outburst, according to local reports.

He was eventually pinned to the floor and held for an hour by a prison officer returning from his holidays while pilots carried out an emergency landing in at the Ioannis Kapodistrias Airport in Corfu, Greece.

Paul Green, who was returning home to Manchester, said problems began shortly the disruptive passenger boarded the plane.

He initially refused to wear a face mask, despite air hostesses ‘pleading’ with him to cover his nose and mouth, before complaining about his seat.

Once the plane was in the air, he walked through it with his mask off drinking from a bottle of spirits.

“The air hostesses were trying to get it off him,” dad Paul said.

“He was wandering around, all ‘F*** this’ and ‘F*** that’.

“Suddenly, the man started “banging on the captain’s door” and then attempted to get out of an emergency exit, he said.

“That’s when the two biggest guys on the plane, who didn’t know each other, lunged at him and took him down,”

Some of the flight’s 220 passengers also had to step in and help pin the man down, as he hammered on the cockpit door – behind which the pilot was sitting.

The plane scrambled to land at the Ioannis Kapodistrias Airport in Corfu, Greece – despite the country’s airports being shuttered to incoming Turkish planes due to coronavirus restrcitions.

The passenger was forced to disembark, where he was arrested.

The man is currently in isolation as he awaits the results of a coronavirus test.

He will then be taken to a prosecutor before returning to the UK.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, incidents of air rage have still been occurring across the skies, usually caused by drunken passangers.

In May, a huge brawl erupted after an “impatient” passenger bumped into people on a flight to Russia.

Footage from the time showed two men grappling in the aisle of a sparsely-populated plane as members of the crew try to intervene.

A witness said one of the men had stood up and walked down the aisle on landing, ignoring social distancing guidelines that had been in force throughout the flight.

It’s the type of nightmare flight no-one ever wants to be on.

But unfortunately for Alan Wild, he was on board such a flight, along with his girlfriend and 11-year-old stepson.

The 47-year-old revealed details of his Ryanair flight from Manchester, UK to Tenerife, Spain, where a drunk passenger was abusing crew and sick on himself multiple times before grabbing at the emergency door.

“We could hear some commotion going on at the front door … basically this guy got on the plane and was hammered,” Wild told The Sun.

“He got to the door and he was swearing at the cabin crew at the top of his voice to the point where my 11-year-old stepson commented on how drunk he was.”

The heavily intoxicated man wasn’t stopped from boarding, which surprised Wild, and he says things only got worse from there.

The drunk man, who stank of whiskey according to Wild, sat himself in the emergency exit row and wouldn’t move when told he couldn’t sit there.

“This guy couldn’t even put his seat belt on … But the cabin crew weren’t interested. They kept telling everyone ‘if it escalates we will deal with it’. So we went along with that.”

But 30 minutes into flight, the drunk man was ill over himself and the floor.

Later, after being sick again, the “slaughtered” passenger was “hanging off the emergency exit door. His arms were all over it.”

The nightmare for Wild and his family didn’t end on touchdown either, having to take a hot bus from the plane on the tarmac to the terminal with the stinking passenger.

Wild adds that he’s surprised by the incident, given the airline’s new policy banning duty-free booze and the extra checks they faced in the airport and still the man was allowed on board the aircraft.

“In most circumstances customers who create a disturbance at check-in or the boarding gate are not permitted to board the plane,” a customer service representative from Ryanir said about the incident.

“If a customer appears to behave in an unacceptable manner during a flight the crew will inform the captain.

“The captain and crew will then decide how to deal with the offending customer. Any customer who acts in a disruptive manner during a flight will be cautioned by the crew or captain.

“If they continue to cause a disturbance the police will be alerted and will meet the flight on landing.”

Drunk Passenger Bites Off Man’s Ear on Plane

A drunk passenger bit off part of a fellow traveler’s ear on board a holiday jet moments after it landed in Spain.

The grisly incident took place on Thursday night after an argument broke out on a Ryanair flight from Birmingham in the UK to Mallorca.

The La Vanguardia news outlet reported that a drunk passenger had been refused any more alcoholic drinks during the flight and had consequentially tried to open a fridge on the plane.

The man, who has not been named, is reported to have then consumed another passenger’s drink.

Having landed at Son Sant Joan airport, the Civil Guard arrived to take down details about the incident from flight crew, only to notice that a fight had broken out.

Going to investigate, they saw a man had bitten a chunk out of another passenger’s ear.

The officers tackled the man and he was arrested while his injured victim was taken to hospital in Palma where he was admitted for treatment.

In a statement to the media the Civil Guard, which is responsible for policing the airport, said: “A 29-year-old British man has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

“While the agents were gathering data on what happened during the flight, talking to the purser, they noticed a fight that was taking place inside the plane.

“They found the young man attacking another passenger whose right ear had been partially bitten off. The man was reduced and immobilized by the Civil Guards.

“The Civil Guard is the one that intervenes in this type of event, which is not very frequent, as it is responsible for security and public order in all the facilities of the restricted area of the airports, as well as inside the aircraft.”

In a statement to Newsweek, Ryanair said: “The crew of this flight from Birmingham to Palma on September 18 requested police assistance upon arrival after a passenger became disruptive in-flight.

“The aircraft landed normally and police removed the individual. This is now a matter for local police”.

Cabin crew across the world often have to deal with travelers who try and flout an airline’s rules, whether that entails refusing to serve any more alcoholic drinks to passengers or enforcing the wearing of face masks.

In July, a video went viral after a woman was seen being ejected from a plane for refusing to wear a face mask.

The video, posted to Twitter, showed a plane full of people clapping as a woman is asked to leave an American Airlines flight due to not having the appropriate face covering.

In the footage, the woman is seen removing her bags from the overhead bins as passengers are seated and ready to depart. All passengers and crew in the cabin appear to have face coverings, apart from the one woman.
