After observing signs of intoxication, officers asked the driver to take field sobriety tests, which allegedly showed that the driver was too drunk to be driving, police said.
The driver was arrested and booked into Marin County jail on suspicion of DUI. Meanwhile, the vehicle was removed from the tracks after an hour, with no delay to SMART service, police said.

SALT LAKE CITY — A man was arrested after allegedly driving under the influence and getting his car high-centered on railroad tracks and assaulting officers.
Police were notified just before 10 p.m. of a car that was stuck on railroad tracks at 200 South and Montgomery Street, Salt Lake City Police detective Dennis McGowan said. Union Pacific was also notified of the blocked tracks. It is unclear how long the vehicle was on the tracks before officials arrived.
When medics arrived, they found Bryen Pace, 50, on the scene with a laceration on his forehead. As medics attempted to give Pace medical attention, he allegedly kicked a firefighter.
When police attempted to take Pace into custody, he became aggressive with police, kicking the officer and a patrol vehicle, McGowan said.
Pace was arrested on suspicion of assault on an emergency responder, resisting arrest and DUI. Police said it appears to be alcohol-related.
McGowan said this incident was an example of the public reporting suspicious situations to police. He urged the public to call dispatch if they see something suspicious or potentially dangerous.
“They’re the ones that shortened the time by notifying police and fire immediately and we were able to get there soon enough and alert Union Pacific to what was going on,” he said.

Dramatic video captured the moment a California transit worker rescued a drunk man who fell onto the tracks at an Oakland station — right as a train was pulling into the stop.
The daring rescue by Bay Area Rapid Transit Supervisor John O’Connor took place at about 5:20 p.m. at the Coliseum Station following the Oakland Raiders home football game, the agency said in a press release.
O’Connor — called a “humble hero” by the agency — was helping with crowd control at the station when an intoxicated man got too close to the yellow safety strip and tumbled onto the tracks just as an incoming train was barreling into the station, the footage shows.
O’Connor quickly swooped in, grabbing the man by his shoulders and pulling him back up onto the platform just as the train whizzed by.
Another video posted to Twitter shows the two men hugging on the platform after the near miss.
