Police Save Family From Dad’s Murderous Rampage

Son, 19, who was sole survivor in father’s murder-suicide rampage dies unexpectedly week after starting college

A 19-year-old man who was the sole survivor in his father’s murder-suicide rampage, which claimed the lives of his parents and three younger siblings, died unexpectedly at his extended family’s Utah home just one week after starting his freshman year of college.

Sha Reh was 17 years old when police say his father killed his mother, his 8-year-old and 2-year-old sisters and his 11-year-old brother at their house in December 2024.

Reh was found in the garage with a gunshot wound to the head and miraculously survived, though he was permanently blinded as a result of the attack.

His extended family confirmed his death in a GoFundMe. They wrote that he died of natural causes on Sunday.

His distraught loved ones said Reh persevered in the wake of his family’s murder and learned to communicate in Braille at the Utah School for the Deaf and Blind. He recently reached a point where he could “live independently” again.

Reh, a first-generation student, was accepted to the University of Utah as a Presidential Scholar and began his freshman year just one week before he died. He was set to major in pre-law, and dreamed of attending law school after completing his undergraduate education.

His surviving family said they found comfort in the thought of “his reunion with his family.”

“He was among those who were once blind, but now can see. He has a perfect vision of his and his family’s eternity, and his home is now with them. Caring for him and watching him grow and regain his independence has been a labor of love for our family,” they wrote in a statement.

In an interview with KSL in May 2025, Reh admitted that he didn’t necessarily struggle to pick up Braille.

When his family emigrated to the US from Myanmar a few years before that nation plunged into civil war, he had to learn English from scratch, and could use similar tactics to teach himself Braille.

Upon settling in Utah, his family was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Reh cited his faith as a source of lasting comfort and motivation, since he could rest easy knowing “I will be able to see my family again in the afterlife.”

“I strive to do good things in this world. I am very grateful and blessed to have this opportunity to be happy,” Reh told the outlet.

“I think my one major goal is to be happy and to make others happy,” he added.

NEED TO KNOW

  • A teen has died after a large brush fire began in a Nevada park
  • Family members identified the deceased as 19-year-old Kevin Reed
  • He graduated high school in 2024, the same year that his mother died

Family members are seeking answers after a young man died following a brush fire at a public Nevada park on Jan. 14.

In an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal shared Monday, Jan. 19, loved ones identified the deceased as 19-year-old Kevin Reed.

The Henderson Fire Department said in a Jan. 14 press release that firefighters responded to the Whitney Mesa brush fire at approximately 4:22 a.m. that same morning near Sunset Road and Arroyo Grande Boulevard.https://www.youtube.com/embed/IraIQlTUYg4

Authorities did not provide a victim’s name at the time, but did note that “one deceased individual was located.”

“We really don’t know what happened, but we know that something is not right,” Reed’s older sister, Summer Carpenter, told the Review-Journal.

She said her sibling lived in an encampment inside the park between friends and family. However, Reed was the only one who did not survive.

“We want to know why nobody helped him,” Carpenter said.

Reed graduated from Green Valley High School in 2024, the same year his mother died, leaving Carpenter to feel as though her family can’t catch a break.

His foster father, Oscar Sanchez Camacho-Waters, shared a video that his son recently posted to social media with Las Vegas news station KSNV.

“I got my diploma, honestly, I didn’t even think I was going to get it, but with the help of my beautiful parents, I got it, that’s a blessing, man, now life for me is going to get better, and I pray for that man,” Reed said in the footage.

Reed was remembered for his positive attitude and outlook on life.

“We are forever grateful that Kevin also allowed my husband and I to be his parents; he showed us love and kindness, even on the days that were stressful and heavy,” Camacho-Waters told KSNV. “Our minds keep going back as to how, how did it happen?”

PEOPLE reached out to the Henderson Fire Department for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.

The agency previously said the large fire led approximately 60 personnel to respond with assistance from the Clark County Fire Department and the Bureau of Land Management.

About 50 residents were evacuated due to heavy smoke.

Carpenter told KTNV that she and Reed were two of seven siblings, and were in the middle in terms of their ages.

When describing her brother, who loved BMX, she said he was “Very goofy. Loved to be outdoors. Very spunky. Very protective, you know, needed anything, he was there.”

Reed was known to love Whitney Mesa Park, with Carpenter adding that Reed was “Always in the biking trails, whether it was the park, on the bikes, hiking, by the water over there. He was always over there; he enjoyed being over there.”

A GoFundMe has been started to assist his family.

A decorated Marine veteran was fatally shot at his home during a Facebook Marketplace sale — and he spent his final moments describing his attackers to police over the phone before heartbreakingly texting his family goodbye.

Michael Ryan Burke, 42, was gunned down during a sale-turned-robbery involving a cellphone at his home in Columbia, Missouri on Sunday, according to the

Three 18-year-olds and a juvenile male have been arrested and charged with murder in Burke’s senseless killing.

Burke’s college pal and fraternity brother, Jerry Reifeiss, described the veteran’s final moments in an interview with KRCG13.

Reifeiss said that it was hard to fathom Burke was killed during a Facebook marketplace robbery, but likened his resolve in his final moments to the same courage that pushed him to enlist in the military.

He said that Burke held on long enough to call 911 and describe the quad of attackers. He also managed to text his mother and sister “I’m dying and I love you” before he was rushed to a local hospital, where he died.

“That was just Ryan. He always put people in front of him and wanted to make sure people know how he felt. He didn’t want to go on to the next life and pass away without providing some information to us that would bring justice to these people and let people know he always loves them,” Reifeiss told the outlet.

During his time at the University of Missouri, Burke double majored in psychology and sociology, which he wrote was part of “the greatest investment in [his] future,” according to a 2016 Facebook post.

“I am thankful for the education I received at the University of Missouri because, in my experience, it’s not so much a weapon but the training of the mind that makes a man dangerous,” he wrote.

When Burke wasn’t in active duty, he was completing missionary work in different parts of the globe, including Uganda, Reifeiss said. In the Facebook post, Burke highlighted his volunteer work in the “fight against human trafficking.”

Alexis Baumann, Kobe Aust, Joseph Crane, all 18-year-old locals, and an unidentified male juvenile were all charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and burglary.

Crane faces two extra charges for unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. The juvenile has a single additional charge for unlawful use of a weapon, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Baumann, Aust and Crane are being held without bond at the Boone County Jail. The juvenile is in custody at the Boone County Juvenile Office.

Family of man shot dead at tower block ‘devastated’

The family of a man shot dead at a tower block in Motherwell say they have been left “devastated” by his death.

Jordan Gray’s body was found in a flat in Shields Court on 15 December last year, but police believe he was killed the previous day.

In a statement, his family said the 26-year-old’s baby would grow up “not knowing how much his dad loved him”.

Police Scotland are asking anyone with information about his death to come forward and are trying to trace a person seen in the Shields Court area at 22:35 the day before his body was found.

At a press conference, Jordan’s mother Lynn Gray and stepfather Michael Groome said he had been “murdered in cold blood”.

“The outpouring of love we have had since Jordan’s death is testament to the fact that he was a well-liked young man and, yet, someone stole him from us,” Groome said.

“We are devastated by our loss. His sisters and wee brother are struggling to understand how someone could do this to their big brother.

“Jordan’s baby will have to grow up without knowing how much his dad loved him.”

A post-mortem examination carried out after Jordan’s death revealed he suffered fatal injuries “consistent with being shot by a firearm”.

He was due to celebrate his 27th birthday on 27 December.

Det Supt Grant Hendry, the senior investigating officer, said police had trawled through more than 1,200 hours of security footage as part of the investigation.

They remain keen to speak to the man seen on the night of the killing, who was said to be wearing a dark jacket with the hood up and dark trousers.

Det Supt Hendry urged anyone who knew the person to come forward, or the person themselves to do so in order to eliminate them from any further inquiries.

Det Supt Hendry said: “Jordan suffered fatal firearm wounds within his home. Since then, we’ve had a dedicated team of officers from the Major Investigation Team, as well as uniformed colleagues, working on this investigation.

“This is a really shocking crime, the murder of a young man in his own home. It’s vital we trace the person responsible and get answers for Jordan’s family.”
