Live Forever? Ultimate Rock and Pop Pilgrimage Launched

It’s a UK road trip with a difference – music fans have been invited to make the ultimate rock and pop pilgrimage by visiting the locations where some of our biggest stars passed away.

Car rental experts from StressFreeCarRental.com have revealed the postcodes and locations where some of the biggest names in music, including Amy Winehouse, Freddie Mercury and George Michael, sadly died.

They have suggested a 1200-mile round Britain itinerary to visit the sites which can be reached by inputting the provided postcodes into any sat nav device.

They’ve also made available a free to download checklist which music fans can print out and then tick off each location as they visit.

But they are urging fans to undertake the road trip purely to pay their respects to the late artists and to remain mindful that many of the sites remain private property.

The 1200-mile road trip takes in several locations which attract thousands of visitors each year – such as the ditch where Marc Bolan crashed his Mini in 1977.

Starting in London the unique tour takes in the spots where icons Amy Winehouse, Freddie Mercury, Keith Moon and Jimi Hendrix passed away.

After leaving the capital music fans are encouraged to journey south to the crash site in Surrey where Glam Rock legend Marc Bolan died before heading on to Hartfield, East Sussex to visit the house where Rolling Stones founder Brian Jones was found dead in a swimming pool in 1969.

They then travel west to Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire, where sixties icon Dusty Springfield sadly passed away before heading to nearby Goring-on-Thames where 80s pop legend George Michael died on Christmas Day 2016.

From Goring, it’s a short trip to Salisbury where Thin Lizzy star Phil Lynott sadly died. Fans are then told to head to a lay-by close to the Severn Bridge near Bristol where Manic Street Preacher guitarist Richey Edwards is believed to have disappeared. He was later declared legally dead.

From there the road trip turns north stopping at Tanworth-in-Arden, Warwickshire where legendary singer-songwriter Nick Drake passed away, before heading on to a terraced house in Macclesfield where Joy Division singer Ian Curtis hung himself in 1980.

The trip then veers north to Scotland to Auchterhouse, near Dundee, the location of the suicide of Billy Mackenzie, lead singer of 80s band The Associates. He was found in a garden shed after an overdose.

The trip then heads back down south stopping at Arkesden, Essex at the location of the death of legendary Small Faces frontman Steve Marriott who sadly perished in a house fire in 1991.

A spokesman for StressFreeCarRental.com, who came up with the tour, said it was a chance for music fans to pay their respects to some of the biggest icons of all time.

He said: “Britain has produced some of the greatest stars in the history of popular music and many of them will never be forgotten. They are the legends who changed the lives of millions and many of us still listen to their music every day.

“So we thought it would be a good idea to gather together the greatest names who sadly passed away on UK soil and offer music fans an itinerary to visit the places where they passed on.

“Many of the locations remain private homes so we urge everyone who follows our guide to remain courteous and respectful at all times.

1. Repostar combustible

Antes de emprender el viaje, no olvides dirigirte a una gasolinera para no correr el riesgo de encontrarte ante una situacion dificil: lo último que necesitas es comenzar el viaje quedandote sin gasolina en un lugar remoto.

2. Comprobar la presion de los neumaticos

Lo mas probable es que lleves el coche hasta arriba de accesorios pesados de camping y que, ademas, todas las plazas del mismo esten ocupadas por otros pasajeros. Ahora bien, si el vehiculo pesa demasiado, conducir puede resultar un poco mas dificil. Modificar la presion de los neumaticos puede ayudarte a mitigar la situacion y hacer que la conduccion te resulte mas facil y comoda a pesar del peso anadido.

3. Hacerse con un sistema de navegacion por satelite

Si el festival se celebra en un lugar remoto, puede resultar muy facil perderse por el camino. Llevar un sistema de navegacion por satelite te permitira llegar al festival a tiempo sin ningún tipo de problemas o altercados. Pero lo que es mas importante: asegúrate de cargarlo por completo antes de salir. Y, si por lo que fuera no pudieras recurrir a este tipo de sistemas, no olvides que las aplicaciones y los mapas de tu telefono pueden tambien serte de gran ayuda.

4. Limitar las distracciones

El hecho de que los otros pasajeros de tu vehiculo hablen demasiado alto o insistan en poner la música a todo volumen puede hacer que concentrarte en la carretera te resulte extremadamente dificil. No dudes en bajar el volumen de la música o pedir a tus pasajeros que hablen de forma mas sosegada para que puedas mantener tu concentracion si asi fuera necesario.

5. Tener un plan de estacionamiento

Averigua, con antelacion, el precio del aparcamiento y hacia donde tendras que dirigirte cuando llegues al recinto del festival en el sitio web del mismo para evitar confusiones una vez alli. Tambien es buena idea, una vez aparcado el vehiculo, anotar la ubicacion exacta del mismo, para no perderlo de vista en aparcamientos abarrotados. Otra opcion que suele resultar mas barata y que, por lo tanto, vale la pena investigar es si existe un servicio de lanzaderas gratuito entre el recinto del festival y un aparcamiento menos concurrido.

6. Mantener las llaves seguras y secas

Asegúrate de guardar las llaves de tu coche en un lugar seguro, accesible y facil de recordar mientras disfrutas del festival. Tambien conviene que las guardes en un lugar donde no puedan mojarse, ya que lo último que quieres es que la llave electronica de tu vehiculo deje de funcionar estando a kilometros de casa.

7. Descansar antes de emprender el viaje de vuelta

Conducir cuando uno esta cansado es extremadamente peligroso, asi que asegúrate de descansar todo lo que puedas antes de salir a la carretera, sobre todo si has trasnochado la vispera. No dudes en salir mas tarde, incluso despues de una siesta y un cafe, si asi fuera necesario. Recuerda que, al fin y al cabo, lo importante es llegar.

8. Asegurarse de estar completamente sobrio/a

De la misma manera que no se debe conducir cuando se esta cansado o no se ha dormido lo suficiente, tampoco se debe conducir, bajo ningún concepto, si se tiene la sospecha de que aún quedan restos de alcohol en el cuerpo. Si crees que has tomado demasiadas copas la noche anterior, es mejor que no emprendas el camino de vuelta hasta la tarde del dia siguiente para asegurarte de que estas 100 % sobrio/a y que puedes conducir de forma totalmente segura.
