MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A police chase in Michigan reached speeds of up to 104 mph and also went through a golf course and in the wrong direction on a major highway.
You can watch video of the chase above.
A man is accused of breaking into homes, carjacking someone, and leading police on a high-speed chase through Macomb County neighborhoods, a golf course, and the wrong direction on I-94.
Thomas Edward Tackett, 52, of Fort Gratiot, is facing charges in connection with the crime spree, which happened on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025.
Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham provided details about the case during a press conference on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025, and released dash camera footage of the pursuit.
Here’s everything we know, including timestamps for what is shown in the police video at the top of this article:
Resident calls 911 after suspect drinks out of hose
At 12:32 p.m. on Oct. 6, a Harrison Township resident called 911 and reported that there was a man in the backyard of his home on Jefferson Avenue, drinking from his hose.
A deputy responded to the home and talked to the man, who was carrying a duffel bag with him.
He told the deputy that he was homeless and was going to head back to Port Huron. The man allegedly didn’t want any help from the sheriff’s office.
Another resident reports home invasion
About 10 minutes later, a different resident flagged down the deputy to report a home invasion. The resident said that a handgun was taken.
At this point, the deputy put out the information he learned, indicating that this person may be the same person he had previously made contact with.
Suspect runs away from deputies
Deputies found the suspect near Metro Parkway and Prentiss. While they were questioning him, he wouldn’t let them pat him down.
(Shown from 0:00 to 0:16 mark in video at the top of this article.)
The suspect then ran away, and the deputies chased him on foot.
The sheriff’s office began notifying local schools to lock down because they believed the man was armed.
Deputies receive report of armed carjacking
At 1:01 p.m., deputies received a report of an armed carjacking in the area of Coleridge Avenue.
The suspect carjacked a 2023 Black Ford Expedition, which deputies found traveling on Metropolitan Parkway and Crocker about three minutes later.
A pursuit ensues, and the suspect cuts across the roadway/grassy area and a bike path and continues traveling on Beamer Street.
(Shown from 0:17 to 1:00 in the video at the top of this article.)
The sheriff said that at this point, deputies lost sight of the suspect due to the dusty road and the suspect’s excessive speeds.
Suspect spotted in St. Clair Shores
The suspect vehicle was then seen traveling on Jefferson Avenue and the sheriff’s office notified police agencies in the surrounding areas that he may be entering their jurisdictions.
At 1:14 p.m., the suspect was spotted going westbound on Elmira Street in St. Clair Shores, and residents helped point police in the right direction.
About four minutes later, the suspect allegedly tried to carjack another person in the area of Briarcliff.
Man breaks into house, homeowner fires shots
Dispatch then received a report that the suspect was trying to break into a home on Timberidge.
The suspect is accused of kicking in the door and entering the home, prompting the homeowner to fire two shots at him.
Neither shot struck the suspect.
Suspect leads police on chase through St. Clair Shores golf course
The suspect then got back into the Expedition and started travelling south on Timberidge, before driving through a St. Clair Shores golf course.
(Shown from 1:00 to 1:29 in the video at the top of this article.)
St. Clair Shores police pursued the vehicle through the course before the suspect eventually left and started traveling northbound on Harper at speeds over 95 mph.
The suspect allegedly continued traveling through Mt. Clemens before heading northbound on Gratiot.
At this point, Clinton Township officers pursued the suspect as he traveled at speeds reaching over 104 mph.
Car enters I-94, heading in wrong direction
The suspect then turned eastbound on Hall Road and then got onto I-94, traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes. The suspect was luckily driving on the shoulder, according to the sheriff.
Officers called off the chase for safety.
(Shown from 1:30 to 3:45 in the video at the top of this article.)
At about 1:32 p.m., the suspect was back in Harrison Township and allegedly left the vehicle near I-94 and Crocker.
He headed to the area of Bonaire Court and Reimold Street, where he unsuccessfully tried to break into three homes before he was able to get into a fourth house.
Suspect threatens to stab homeowner with fork
During that break-in, he demanded the homeowner’s keys before he allegedly grabbed a fork and threatened to stab the homeowner.
After the suspect fled that home, he went into another home on Riemold, and was involved in another confrontation.
The suspect also demanded the homeowner’s car keys, but this resident told him they were going to get a gun and shoot him, prompting the suspect to flee.
Man taken into custody
When deputies arrived, the homeowner pointed them in the direction that the suspect fled.
Deputies found the man, tackled him, and took him into custody.
(Shown from 3:45 to 4:24 in the video at the top of this article.)
“Within 40-some minutes, this guy went through several communities, attempted to break into multiple homes; didn’t care about property, didn’t care about life,” Wickersham said. “Again, one dangerous individual that was taken off the street.”
Lengthy criminal history
When Tackett was arrested, he was out on parole.
The sheriff said the 52-year-old has a lengthy criminal history that dates back to 1995, with recent crime sprees involving fleeing and eluding in Clinton Township in 2017 and three home invasions (one in Clinton Township, one handled by the sheriff’s office, and one in St. Clair County in 2018).
Charges
Tackett was charged with the following:
- Four counts of home invasion
- Two counts of fleeing and eluding
- Three counts of malicious destruction of property
- Assault with a dangerous weapon
- Resisting and obstructing a police officer
- Operating with a revoked license
- Reckless driving
“This defendant’s alleged actions represent an alarming and dangerous pattern of criminal behavior,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “The charges are extremely serious and reflect a complete disregard for the safety and well-being of our community. My office will pursue these charges to the fullest extent of the law to ensure the public is protected and justice is served.”

Wild body camera video shows the moment police officers in Chino arrested a man who they say tried to steal several pairs of shoes from a store.
CHINO, Calif. (KABC) — Wild body camera video shows the moment police officers in Chino arrested a man who they say tried to steal several pairs of shoes from a store.
The incident happened on Monday at a WSS shoe store.
According to police, officers got there just as the suspect – identified as 34-year-old Gabriel Hernandez of Anaheim – was leaving with an armload of stolen shoes.
The video, which was posted on the Chino Police Department’s Instagram page, shows Hernandez dropping most of the shoe boxes as he tried to get away.
Moments before, Hernandez was actually caught on surveillance video trying on some of the shoes, according to police.
Police said as Hernandez was running away from officers, he attempted to carjack a vehicle that was stopped at an intersection by jumping through the front passenger window and grabbing the steering wheel.
The suspect was ultimately arrested and booked at the county jail on multiple charges.
Police chase involving stolen garbage truck, several crashes ends with suspect in custody

EVERETT, Mass. —
A man was arrested following a wild, hourslong multi-city police chase involving a stolen garbage truck and several crashes, Everett police said.
The scene began after police in Medford, Massachusetts, received a report that someone was acting erratically at a gas station just before 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
The person, who was later identified as Admilson Vizcaino, left the gas station in a black Chevrolet SUV before police could respond to the scene.
In a press conference, Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan said Medford police put out a BOLO on the SUV, and Stoneham police attempted to pull the car over at 1 p.m.
At 2 p.m., the SUV, still driven by Vizcaino, stopped at a 7/11 convenience store in Billerica, where police said a shoplifting had taken place.
An hour later, Malden police said they received a call from a family member of Vizcaino saying that he was in Malden. Malden police attempted to stop Vizcaino but lost track as he made his way into Everett.

In a dashcam video, Vizcaino is seen hanging out the window of an SUV, arguing with a Massachusetts State Police trooper in Everett. The trooper is holding a Taser, at times pointing it at Vizcaino.
At one point, Vizcaino is standing on the driver’s side window before he gets back into the car and drives off.

When Vizcaino failed to surrender, he crashed the car on Broadway in front of the Encore Casino, where he fled on foot and attempted to unsuccessfully carjack several cars sitting in traffic.
The suspect was then able to carjack a Republic Services garbage truck stopped at a red light in the intersection of Broadway and Mystic Street, police said.
There was a passenger inside the garbage truck along with the driver. The passenger was able to let himself out of the truck before a struggle ensued with the driver, where Vizcaino was able to open the driver’s-side door.
He let himself into the truck and tried to climb over the driver. Ryan says that at this point, police fired several shots to get Vizcaino out of the truck. The driver was safely removed.
In a video sent to NewsCenter 5, Vizcaino is seen engaging in a verbal altercation with police before jumping into the garbage truck and taking off down Broadway in Everett.
Vizcaino drove onto the Alford Street Bridge, crashing into several light poles and fire hydrants along the way.

Ryan confirmed that Vizcaino was shot and tased during the ordeal. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Police found a container of gasoline in the stolen SUV. Vizcaino was seen carrying the container at a 7/11 store earlier in the day in Billerica, Ryan said. A lighter was also recovered from the suspect.
The Everett police officer who fired shots at Vizcaino while he attempted to open the garbage truck door has been placed on administrative leave, Everett police chief Paul Strong said.
Vizcaino was charged with four counts of attempted armed carjacking, two counts of armed carjacking, assault, armed assault with intent to rob, and various motor vehicle charges.
He will be arraigned at a later date, Ryan said.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
